Wisdom - Infinite Devos 6

God is infinite in his WISDOM

To be wise means to know what is right from what is wrong.

As you read, reflect on these three questions:

  1. What does this mean for my life and my relationship with God?

  2. What does this mean for my church and my relationship with the people at my church?

  3. What does this mean for the world, and my relationship with the people of the world, especially non-Christians?

Proverbs 2:1-11

My child, listen to what I say, and treasure my commands. Tune your ears to wisdom, and concentrate on understanding.

Cry out for insight, and ask for understanding. Search for them as you would for silver; seek them like hidden treasures.

Then you will understand what it means to fear the Lord, and you will gain knowledge of God. For the Lord grants wisdom! From his mouth come knowledge and understanding.

He grants a treasure of common sense to the honest. He is a shield to those who walk with integrity. He guards the paths of the just and protects those who are faithful to him.

Then you will understand what is right, just, and fair, and you will find the right way to go. For wisdom will enter your heart, and knowledge will fill you with joy. Wise choices will watch over you. Understanding will keep you safe.

Chey’s Reflections

1. What does this mean for my life and my relationship with God?

We first have to seek God’s word by reading the Bible diligently as this will increase our wisdom and our understanding of how God wants us to live our life. In doing so, we will fear the Lord (be in awe of Him) and we will realize that we are not able to discern what is right and wrong on our own. Only God can give us wisdom and help us know what is wise. So in reading His word, we will be able to worship God with a greater understanding of who He is and His power.

2. What does this mean for my church and my relationship with the people at my church?

When we have a better understanding of God and His word, we will become better members of the church! Wisdom allows us to know what is right and wrong so we will make better decisions in our generosity (tithing), be equipped to act as advisors and examples to others (bigs and littles), and discern where our place is in the body of the church.

3. What does this mean for the world, and my relationship with the people of the world, especially non-Christians?

When we possess wisdom, we will live our lives with integrity, righteousness, justice, and insight. These qualities allow us to better reach non-Christians. We will be able to be an example to the world of how a good Christian should act, in a way that emulates God and Jesus. Also, acting in a way that is pleasing to God may bring us success and protection. This will attract the attention of the world — if I act like this, there must be a powerful person behind all his or her success! (I should learn about it!).

While we might not always be prosperous, if we remain faithful to God, this will be encouraging to other people (both Christians and non-Christians) or at the very least, make them wonder why we are doing this!
